Autumn-Winter Trend Round-Up

You know the summer is officially over when the long-awaited ready-to-wear collection is put neatly and expertly on display, so that avid fashionistas and savvy fashion shoppers can start the new season in style. After doing some trend research, in order to find out what colours, wardrobe essentials and flattering shapes and cuts we have to get our hands on, it looks like we are going to have a lot of choice.

From pastels and deep hues to mood-brightening colours, from glitter trousers and futuristic almost outer space type of clothing to elegant suits and embellished evening dresses, this season is marked by designers’ diverge approach to fashion underlined by femininity, practicality and extravagance.

Colour Splash

If you think the cold months of the year are dull and colourless just like the weather well, think again. We will be enjoying in style sunny shades such as yellow, orange and mustard that bring summer-reminiscent memories to the look at Dior, Chanel, Armani, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Burberry and DKNY.

The passion for colour finds further expression in the presence of rich bordeaux and burgundy hues that give a baroque nod to the outfit as seen at Gucci, Oscar de la Renta and Burberry and constitute as well a chic alternative to classic black.

Last but not Least!

Designers boldly experiment with rich, saturated hues as cobalt blue (DKNY), green (Armani) and aubergine (Alexander McQueen), although delicate pastels (think blue, pink, green) and earthy shades (caramel, grey, dark brown) are not excluded.

Patterns and Prints

Prints and patterns have always been around, but this season we have a range of geometric motifs (Armani), florals (Dolce & Gabbana), animal patterns – snake and leopard (Gucci), ethnic style patterns, notably Union Jack and checked prints (Jean Paul Gaultier), embroidered houndstooth motif (Oscar de la Renta). If you are willing to make a statement opt for a bold colour with a quirky pattern or a lavish embroidery and encrustation (Dolce & Gabbana), which will be highly suitable for evening occasions.

What to Wear

This is inevitably the key question to this season’s fashion. Despite the fact that low temperatures and head-to-toe cover-up are two parts of the same equation (a few frivolities are, however, allowed), the choice of the right outfit can still be challenging. Luckily, a swathe of designers have thought in depth about the situation. That’s why the autumn – winter ready-to-wear collection is here to give us a helping hand. The staple pieces comprise double-breasted coats (Dior), fitted leather jackets (Louis Vuitton), oversized fur coats (Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Michael Kors, Alexander McQueen), short and knee-length dresses (Victoria Beckham, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen for a dramatic and eccentric look, Dior, Armani, Prada), long asymmetric dresses (Oscar de la Renta). As far as the pair of trousers is concerned – probably the most coveted piece in the wardrobe given its everyday functionality – we are provided with a few solutions – flared trousers suit (Armani), slim fit trousers suit (Dior), glitter option (Jean Paul Gaultier) and cropped trousers (Mark Jacobs).

Since the daytime look is fixed, we need to consider what’s going to be a hit in the evening wardrobe. Unsurprisingly, glitter, sequins and jewel encrustations are a must, but we also have an abundant of sophisticated embroideries, appliqués and sheer fabrics. The perfect evening look will articulate bejeweled statements that add that somewhat royal touch to the look or delicate see-through flowing pieces to bring out that seductive streak in you.

Finally, we are looking forward to embracing a colourful, multi-textured, embellished season enabling us to mix and match colours and materials in order to create a unique, daring if need be, look that will reflect our own personality and values.
