Want to Mix the Old with the New?
This trend will have you hunting down your nearest charity shops, boot fairs and thrift stores; and not to mention raiding your parent’s wardrobes. After all, this trend is all about mixing the old with the new; choosing initial retro pieces and modernising them with items from the 21st century.
How to Wear it
With a neutral complexion and winged eyeliner, this look looks perfect with a vibrant lip colour. Ladies, it’s time to aim high with that hair! From bangs, curls, beehives and victory roles, volume is what it is all about. For that perfect day time look, opt for high waisted jeans or dungarees which can be teamed with just about anything. Guys, the fedora is your statement piece that doesn’t age! But remember, any retro statements need to compliment your existing wardrobe.
As Worn by the Stars *
You can spot celebrities like Rihanna, Florence Welch and Kirsten Stewart opting for either a winged frame and/or circular lenses which is key to this look.
Frames from the Hallmark range which can be seen here are unbelievably in tune with the whole Retro meets Modern look. It is almost like the frames have been designed with this title in mind! The price tag is fab as well. The cost of the frames including lenses and coatings start from an amazing £25!! Here are some of my favourites:
This cat-eye frame from Hallmark is very Retro and Modern. The frame above is shown in the Red Demi colour option but you have a choice of 4 colour options in all. With a price tag of £29.50 it’s a real steal!
This Clubmaster frame is amazing! I love this acetate frame showing off this modern look of black on top and clear on the bottom as well as the wooden arms. This is a very flattering frame for both men and women. Take a look here but if you prefer Bamboo on the arm which is a much lighter shade than the wood, then take a look at the A6865 frame here. Once again, an amazing price tag of £29.50 including lenses and coatings. If you are after the more Rounded frame, then there are plenty to choose from including colour options.
At only £25 you can check out this frame here. Decide for yourself whether the Black or the Havana frame is best. The silver arms add unique detail. Alternatively, why not choose both and have a stylish second pair as sunglasses!! In fact all these frames shown can be prescription sunglasses if you prefer.
Designer Retro meets Modern frames
This fabulous pair of FT0253 Madison frames by Tom Ford scream 1950s glamour with a cat-eye frame that would make Audrey Hepburn proud! Take a look here.
Once again Ray-Ban manage to do it again with this RB3475Q frame that you can see more of here. It’s simple, yet bold and the Crystal Green lens compliments the black slim frame which gives that Retro feel. Can you decide?
