1. Don\u2019t focus on color or darkness of your sunglass lenses<\/h2>\n

Select sunglasses that block UV rays. Don\u2019t be deceived by color or cost. The ability to block UV light is not dependent on the price tag or how dark the sunglass lenses are.<\/p>\n

2. Check for 100 percent UV protection<\/h2>\n

Make sure your sunglasses block 100 percent of UV-A rays and UV-B rays.\u00a0 Beware of cheap imitation sunglasses as these may not guarantee you 100% UV protection.<\/p>\n

3. Choose wrap-around styles<\/h2>\n

Ideally, your sunglasses should wrap all the way around to your temples, so the sun\u2019s rays can\u2019t enter from the side.<\/p>\n

4. Wear a hat<\/h2>\n

In addition to your sunglasses, wear a broad-brimmed hat to protect your eyes.<\/p>\n

5. Don\u2019t rely on contact lenses<\/h2>\n

Even if you wear contact lenses with UV protection, remember your sunglasses.<\/p>\n

6. Don\u2019t be fooled by clouds<\/h2>\n

The sun\u2019s rays can pass through haze and thin clouds. Sun damage to eyes can occur anytime during the year, not just in the summertime.<\/p>\n

7. Protect your eyes during peak sun times<\/h2>\n

Sunglasses should be worn whenever outside, and it\u2019s especially important to wear sunglasses in the early afternoon and at higher altitudes, where UV light is more intense.<\/p>\n

8. Never look directly at the sun<\/h2>\n

Looking directly at the sun at any time, including during an eclipse, can lead to solar retinopathy, damage to the eye\u2019s retina from solar radiation.<\/p>\n

9. Don\u2019t forget the kids<\/h2>\n

Everyone is at risk, including children. Protect their eyes with hats and sunglasses. In addition, try to keep children out of the sun between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., when the sun\u2019s UV rays are the strongest.<\/p>\n
