Just lately a few of us from SelectSpecs.com have made good use of Orange’s fantastic Orange Wednesday<\/strong> promotion by paying regular visits to the cinema to see recent films such as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Star Trek, and The Hangover.\u00a0 Last night we decided to check out Michael Mann’s<\/strong> new 1930’s cat and mouse crime thriller, Public Enemies<\/strong>, staring Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, and Academy Award Winner Marion Cotillard.<\/p>\n

Set in 1933, it was a time before glasses and sunglasses were truly fashionable in the way they are today, or available in hundreds of different styles from various designers.\u00a0 Refreshingly, there are no Wayfarer or Aviator style frames to be seen!\u00a0 Instead, many of the characters from Public Enemies are wearing simple round metal or plastic rimmed (or rimless) vintage frames. \"Johnny Johnny Depp stars as outlaw John Dillinger in Public Enemies and is seen wearing several vintage style frames during outdoor scenes throughout the film, the first is a simple acetate tortoise shell frame while the other sunglasses are a thin wire-frame in silver\/gold with red-tinted lenses, similar in shape to a style worn in a previous Johnny Depp film, The Ninth Gate<\/strong>. At one point he is also seen wearing some interesting looking prescription glasses which are quite angular (almost hexagonal in shape), but sadly the cinema we saw the film in wouldn’t allow us to take cameras in to take pictures.\u00a0 Can’t think why!<\/p>\n

Not new to wearing glasses in movies, Johnny Depp has appeared in several other films wearing various glasses or sunglasses. \"Johnny Johnny Depp wears Ray-Ban 3138 Shooter<\/strong> sunglasses in the film Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas<\/strong> \"Johnny Johnny Depp wears Berkshire Chase Savile Row Beaufort Panto in the film The Ninth Gate<\/strong> \"Johnny Here Johnny Depp is wearing these ridiculous glasses (goggles) for a scene in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to “prevent light burning his eyeballs right out of his skull” in the TV room!<\/p>\n
