Maybe it’s something in the water, but I am itching for summer. Whether it’s procrastination from upcoming exams, the slow but emergence of the summer sun, or this never ending cold that I currently has me bedbound – 4 weeks and counting – I have holiday fever and there’s no sign of it letting up. And with holiday fever comes holiday shopping; reinventing myself for the long sunny days and the even longer summer nights, I currently have a wishlist that extends well beyond my arm.
The trick to the perfect holiday wardrobe is simplicity, versatility and coordinatability (totally not a word but it finishes the sentence nicely, so sue me), and for that reason I have styled this gorgeous pair of retro sunglasses from Givenchy in five different holiday scenarios. The chunky frame will flatter any face shape, whilst the nude colour will match any outfit and makes a fresh alternative from timeless black frames (although this pair is a beaut). Plus, they’ll look fabulous with a tan, and will never go out of style.
Investing in one pair of sunnies for your upcoming trips – whether you’re off to Bolivia, Birmingham or just your Back Garden – will take the stress out of holiday packing, and will save you some pennies for those piña coladas on the beach at sunset. Fab.
OK, so unless you’re Beyoncé and Jay-Z, it’s unlikely that you worry about how you look when roaming duty free or waiting to pick up your luggage (I doubt Beyoncé even flies Ryanair). Indeed, it’s all about comfort comfort comfort when travelling to/from your wonderful holiday destination. Oh, and layering – I can’t even remember the number of times I have left English rain bundled up in knitwear, only to arrive sweating on the other side. So un-Beyoncé.
For your wandering ways, opt for baggy joggers, a loose knight jumper over a camisole and shoes that you can slip on and off at will. Finish the outfit off with these retro Givenchy frames that will hide your jet lag and make you look that little bit more put together, even though you literally got dressed in the dark. Perfect for faking that I woke up like dis look (last Beyoncé reference, promise).
By the Pool
Good news to the cake-lovers out there: one-piece swimwear is back. Retro silhouettes, halternecks and polka dots are all the rage right now and the shops are full of alternatives to the classic string bikini. Block colours, bold patterns and sweetheart necklines made the perfect accompaniment to the retro shape of these Givenchy frames, allowing you to channel Marilyn Monroe even in the hottest of temperatures. If bikinis are more your thing, try a high-waisted bottom and a balconette-style top for simple throwback style. Cover up with a loose kaftan or a comfy pair of shorts and you are good to go!
Out to Dinner
After a hard day’s beaching around or pounding the streets, it’s always nice to kick back and dress up for an evening of delicious food and glamorous selfies. Protect your eyes from the late setting sun with these sunglasses, donning rich jewel colours and lose fitting fabrics to show off your tan and hide your food baby. The nude colour of these frames adds an instant sense of sophistication to any dress, be it playsuit, maxi skirt or classic LBD.
Of course, holidays aren’t all about beach glamour and sultry cocktails. Sometimes you just want to get back to nature and spend a few days tucked away in a cabin in the heart of beautiful woodland. Keep it low maintenance and make sure you’re ready for anything with a loose-fitting playsuit or dungarees, finished off with some trainers to help you keep your grip. These Givenchy frames will match your laid-back vibe and keep you looking cool when you have to wander back to civilisation.
Being a Parisian at heart, this is probably my favourite look of them all, and – quelle surprise – it’s centered on the Breton stripe that probably makes up a good third of my wardrobe. Team up with a pair of jeans for comfort whilst you roam the city and soak up the sights. A backpack will carry all of your daily essentials and keep your hands free for photos and ice cream, whilst trainers will allow you to stay on your feet all day long. A scarf will keep the hair off your face when things get a little sweaty (yum!). The simple design of these frames will perfectly match this minimalist look, with a cat-eye design that is as timeless as this Breton stripe/jean combo.
What is your favourite look? Are you excited for your summer holidays?
