2017 Trend Alert: Clashing Prints

Clashing prints are a hot trend for AW17, and this particular fashion phase just couldn’t be easier to pull off.

Dig around your wardrobe for your most fabulous prints and create as many outrageous combinations as you can!

Clash big patterns with delicate details, bold coloured prints with monochrome, or nature-inspired pieces with steampunk motifs.

There’s plenty of scope to play around with clashing your prints and express your personality whatever the situation, be it work or play.

Nights out might call for polkas dots and animal patterns, while for work, subtle stripes and dogtooth could be a cool combo.

For those of you who want to stay right on top of the fashion game, tropical prints ands a polka dots look to be the order of the day on the catwalks.

And what better way to brighten up autumnal days than with a sunny splash of colour and some palm trees?

If all else fails, opt for a logo tee and pair with some stripy pants for a laid-back approach to this trend.

If you need a bit more inspo, here are some print partnerships that tick all our boxes.

Gingham + Florals

Gingham prints come shrouded in visions of country summers, youthful innocence and haystacks a plenty.

On its own or paired with something plain, it can look cutesy cutesy, which is great.

But, if you want to add some edge to your outfit, mixing it up with another pattern really works.

Pick a pretty floral in the same colour as your gingham check for a sweet summer look.

We’re sold on the all-blue ensemble below, and blue’s the colour of the moment too.

Keep the blue theme going with these shades:

Polka Dots & Petals

Polka dots have made a serious comeback recently, so why not kill two birds with one stone by clashing your spots?

Wear with a feminine petal print for a 50s-inspired look.

Below, the top’s soft pink background and the complementing pink shades of the flowers are just the trick.

Love a good clashing print 😍😍😍 These two pieces from @cueclothingco can be worn separately in so many ways but also together. The colour tones complement each other, the prints don't fight with each other and it's a little bit unexpected (especially in the corporate world!). Pulling the look together with matching belt and shoes would be an effortless way to make this look feel finished, easy and balanced. Don't be scared to wear different combinations from your wardrobe rather than always choosing the obvious looks. This can definitely be confusing though if you're fighting the urge to follow old rules and fashion trends. But as long as the fit of each individual item is good, then usually you will be able to match them back with the majority of your wardrobe. If you're unsure about how to take your style to the next level, get in touch or come along to one of my events/workshops. It's easy to step outside your comfort zones once you understand the fundamentals of your style! Thanks Jac for being my hidden clothing holder!! 😘😘😘 #clashingprints #mixitup

Checks & Stripes

You might think a checks-and-stripes combo isn’t for the faint hearted, but as shown below, the results don’t have to be as dizzying as you might think.

Keep things up to the minute with cold-shoulder sleeves and wide-leg pants for a surprisingly summery look.

Mish Mash

If none of the traditional patterns work for you, then it’s time to go bold.

Take a visit to your local charity shop and trawl through the rails for a print that gets you going.

The colourful ensemble below definitely gets our vote, especially given the added bonus of clashing with the chairs in the background!
