Bridge of Spies – Spy the Specs!

Nominated for 6 Oscars, including Best Picture, The bridge of spies is set to be a success.  Set in the cold war, an American lawyer, James B Donovan (Tom Hanks), is recruited to defend an arrested Soviet Spy (Mark Rylance) in court.  He then has to help the CIA to set up a prisoner exchange for a Soviet captured American U2 spy plane pilot in Berlin.

Already winning a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor, Mark Rylance has also been nominated for an Oscar of the same title. Maybe this is due to his great choice in glasses?

Mark Rylance wearing Clubmaster style frames

Mark Rylance can be seen here in the film apparently wearing Shuron Ronsir Zyl Black Briar Taper Temple eyeglasses, but they do look remarkably similar to Clubmaster frames by Ray-Ban.  A very popular design as they are a very retro yet modern-looking frame; an all round classic frame, which you can find here!

Tom Hanks plays an American Lawyer in the film.  We believe his choice of glasses help him portray his character well, with very smart and official looking glasses that wouldn’t look too out of place on Dumbledore from the Harry Potter Movies.

Some believe in the film he is wearing a Porchse Design frame, although we can’t be 100% sure, however here at Select Specs we have a similar Half-moon style frame with the Jaguar 33569 (Available in 4 colours here).

Not only does he have a great choice of glasses in the film, but at the premier, Tom showed off his sense of retro style with these very classic specs.

Sticking with the Ray Ban theme, Tom has matched these iconic Wayfarer style frames to a classic grey suit.  Wayfarers are a very versatile frame; they can be paired with a very smart look, or also work as a casual everyday look.

Director Steven Speilberg at the Bridge of Spies press conference

The man who made all of this happen – Steven Speilberg, seen here at the Bridge of Spies press conference, wearing a brown frame with round lenses; another vintage style frame that seems to be all the rage right now.

Here at Select Specs we offer the Pepe Jeans London PJ3100 Mason frame which is very similar to Speilberg’s tastes here.

We wish the Bridge of Spies team good luck a the Oscars on the 28th February!  Who knows, we may see Tom Hanks or Steven Spielberg rock some different vintage frames!
