Another year, another controversy at the Oscars.
It all started well. A throng of A-listers posed and pouted their way up the red carpet. Host Jimmy Kimmel got a smattering of laughs, while managing not to offend too many people. Above all, it looked like the Academy really had made some efforts to address last year’s #Oscarssowhite scandal.
Then Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway stepped up to present the biggest gong of the night: best picture.
The first sign that things might not quite be in order was Beatty’s confused look when he opened the envelope. The next was his delay in announcing the winner. Should he have stopped there when he thought that something was amiss? Possibly. Instead he handed the card to Dunaway who announced that La La Land had won the 2017 best picture Oscar, and in doing so had picked up the most sought-after prize in tinseltown.
Cue heartfelt acceptance speeches which were awkwardly taken back when officials dashed on saying the wrong film had been announced: Moonlight had actually won.
While officially the error has been blamed on PWC, the accounting firm that has been totting up the Oscar votes for the past 83 years, for giving Beatty the wrong card, we’re still wondering whether it was a human error or an eyesight one that led to the embarrassment.
Whatever happened, it’s given us the perfect opportunity to take a look at wearing glasses with men’s formal wear, so at least someone will be getting the best picture.
While lots of celebs don their contacts when getting dressed up, glasses can look just as well groomed. Here are some top tips for getting red carpet ready with your specs in tow.
Suit, Tie & Lenses
For a really sleek look, match your frames to your suit. This creates consistency through your outfit that mirrors the formality of the occasion.

Hair Styling & Glasses
Men’s hair can often take a back seat when it comes to formal wear, but the right style can be just the ticket for making a feature of your frames. Choose some bold glasses and style your hair to complement and draw attention to your specs or sunnies.
Get some simple shades like the ‘Biebs so your hair can fall as it pleases and you don’t have to sculpt it into any awkward angles.
Make like Zayn Malik and let your personality shine through your formal wear. We love that big occasions don’t have to mean the same old uniform. Choose some glasses with tinted lenses or opt for some truly stand-out frames.

Mix Things Up
If you’re just not a suit kind of person, team your jacket and tie with some jeans. Wearing with thick frames can actually add some formality to the look, while still maintaining your arty credentials.
