She’s only worked professional within the industry for four years, but has already made a huge impact on the music scene. Yep, were talking about the beautiful Californian singer-songwriter Banks.
And it seems the same goes for her fashion choices too. For those who aren’t aware of who she is, she’s been dubbed to be one of the new ‘queens’ of the dark R&B and electronica scene pretty much since she’d started.
Thanks to her powerful musical sound, angelic voice (often compared to the likes of Aaliyah) and vulnerable lyrics rightfully winning the hearts of music critics and enthusiasts.
Born in Orange County and raised in the affluent neighbourhood of Tarzana, where she may have rubbed shoulders with Selena Gomez and Blake Lively to name a few.
The 29 year-old beauty never had any form of musical training beforehand – although she taught herself how to play the piano and has been song writing from a young age.
She eventually earned a Psychology degree – which may explain her in-depth writing talents.
But even with her degree, Banks couldn’t resist her true calling. And we must say, we’re glad she didn’t.
If this weren’t the case, she never would have attracted the likes of Radio hosts such as BBC Radio One’s Zane Lowe back in 2013 with her offbeat track Fall Over.
Prior to this, her music has been something critics can’t seem to help but fall for.
During her interviews, she’s notably credited for showing a sense of emotional intellect and the vulnerability which other artists can seem to manifest authentically.
But on stage it’s a different story. She’s a powerful force of nature, contributing to her widespread fandom. And even better for us fashion fanatics- her dress sense embodies that.
Over the past coming years, she has since become bolder and more confident– which is evident in her sophomore album The Altar.
However, that doesn’t mean she has completely re-invented herself. Her dress sense has always been the same: dark, sleek and minimal.
Although she has recently started to experiment with different colours and patterns, her gothic-chic aesthetic has not yet to disappear.
She always manages to stick to a certain colour palette: black, white and red. Stylishly clashing textures of leather, feathers and see-through finishes.
However, although those shades will always be her go-to colours – she’s cleverly nailed certain SS17 trends without compromising her personal style.
The pretty punk trend is right up her street, after all. And think about metallic-silver thigh high boots – isn’t just the sound of that already amazing?
She’s also showing a softer, romantic side with red shades and floral prints, gothic-bride like head netting – and even casual denim – which fans never thought would ever see on her willingly.
And it seems that as Dior’s official new fashion muse, that her personal style is equally noticeable to the high fashion world.
Although that is not the fashion first collab she has been a part of – any fans out there remember the Coach campaign?
So what’s next in store for her? Although we’re not exactly sure, we definitely cannot hold back the excitement; whether music or fashion wise.
There’s no doubt that the singer-songwriter now exudes confidence whatever she wears.
Which is the beauty of her taste – she’s managed to stay true to her fashionable yet slight eccentric look, whilst giving her look a pleasant update.
