Did you know that approximately 30% of the UK population describe themselves as severely sleep deprived due to insomnia? If you are one of these 30% who suffer with getting to sleep and staying asleep, then you may be looking for some tips on how to achieve that allusive decent night’s shut-eye.
Not only is a lack of sleep bad for your physical and mental health, it is also totally annoying and frustrating.
Follow these top tips to help you achieve a better quality of sleep.
1. Switch Off Technology
One of the top factors for preventing a good night’s sleep is being glued to your phone, tablet or the television just before going to bed.
If you are busy texting or catching up on social media, your brain is still going to be active when you are trying to get some shut-eye.
The best thing to do is to make the hour leading up to bed a tech-free zone – focus on winding down by reading, doing some pampering, or drinking a warm caffeine-free drink.
2. Create a To-Do List For Tomorrow
Put aside 15 minutes and have a good think about everything you need to the next day.
Write it down into a notebook and tell yourself you will deal with everything the following day.
This will prevent you from lying in bed and keeping yourself awake trying to think about everything you need to do the next day.
You will feel more relaxed knowing you have thought about this already and you are properly prepared for the day ahead.
3. Don’t Exercise Late at Night
If you work out in the evenings, you may inadvertently be keeping yourself awake at night.
Working out can give you an adrenaline boost which will give you a boost of energy, making sleep the last thing on your mind.
Try to avoid exercise 3 to 4 hours before you go to sleep.
Instead, could you workout in the morning or during your lunch break?

5. Don’t Do Work On Your Bed
