Style Scouting At The French Open

The French Open may not be scheduled to commence until May, but with the news that Serena Williams is returning to the world of competitive tennis, we’re overcome with excitement for the summer tournaments!

Whether you tend to watch at home or prefer being in the stands, we’re sure you’ll agree the grand slam always proves to be a cracking contest, rivalling Wimbledon in the talent and fashion stakes.

Whether it’s the pros serving major looks on court or celebrity spectators raising the style stakes in the stands, the French Open always proves to be a major event in the tennis calendar.

Read on for the top trends we’ve spotted from the grand slam in the past, both on and off the court.

 Staple Hats

We often see hats aplenty at Roland-Garros, no doubt to protect against the typically changeable weather!

Our fave style spot from last year has to be the classic straw hat, with the image above capturing vintage tennis vibes perfectly.

Stamp your own style on this look by accessorizing with a ribbon in your fave colour, or experiment with different shapes; we love the structured crown on this Janessa Leone piece below.

Wear with staple sunnies to let your headgear take centre stage. A simple white linen dress like the one shown above is perfect to keep the heat at bay, without sacrificing your style.

Complete the look with a pair of understated oval frames, like these gorgeous Ray-Bans below!

Sports luxe is still firmly on the fashion radar, and this summer it’s all about the 90s street twist.

Channel the trend like Venus and wear gold hoop earrings with your sportswear. We’re digging the funky visor too, matching back perfectly to her top.

Complete the set with coordinating accessories for all the style points. We’re loving the Carducci Sun CD1053 and think they’d do the job perfectly! Grab them below.

Athleisure Aesthetic

We’ve seen a lot of the big brands getting in on throwback athleisure this season, with plenty of tennis stars sporting the trend both on court and off.

Check out Stella McCartney’s refreshed Elyse flatform trainers to take you straight back to the ’90s. They might be a little difficult to play tennis in, but we reckon they’ll look fab if you’re hitting the streets, and not the first serve!

Be sure to style with some round shades to mix up the decades for a fresh twist on a retro look. This pair from Jimmy Choo oozes luxury with its decadent embellished edges:

Forget millennial pink – the colours of the 2017 tournament were definitely green and blue.

King of the Clay, Rafael Nadal, led the way in his rich blue ensemble, with Nick Kyrgios also getting in on the act.

In the ladies’ draw, sea green proved to be the colour of choice, with Kristina Mladenovic getting it just right with her matching headband and trainers.

Green with envy? Get in on the action with some cool frames like these from Salvatore Ferragamo. They’ll look fab with your tennis whites, or teamed with a beach dress on your hols:
