Style Scouting At The French Open

The French Open is over and alongside all the great play, the fashion was right on the ball too.

Whether you’ve been watching at home or were in the stands, we’re sure you’ll agree it was a smashing year. Here are the tops trends we spotted from the grand slam, on and off the court.

Hats

We’ve seen hats aplenty at Roland-Garros, no doubt partly to protect against the volatile weather this year. Our fave style spot has to have been the straw hat, which captures vintage tennis vibes perfectly.

Stamp your own style on this look by accessorizing with a ribbon in your fave colour, or experiment with different shapes; we love the structured crown on this Janessa Leone piece below.

Wear with simple sunnies to let your headgear take centre stage. We like these Ray-Bans with understated oval frames:

Sports Luxe

Sports luxe is still firmly on the fashion radar, and this summer it’s taken on a ’90s twist.

Channel this style like Venus and wear gold hoop earrings with your sportswear. The older Williams sister made it to the round of 16 this year, before losing to Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland in three sets.

This was also a record-breaking 20th appearance at Roland-Garros for her, so we can think of worse people to try to emulate; at 36 she’s showing no signs of slowing down.

We’re digging the funky visor too, and happy to see that she has a range of different shades in her collection of this retro accessory.

We’ve seen a lot of the big brands getting in on throwback athleisure this season too.

Check out Stella McCartney’s refreshed Elyse flatform trainers to take you straight back to the ’90s. They might be a little difficult to play tennis in, but we reckon they’ll look fab if you’re hitting the streets not a first serve.

Be sure to style with some round shades to mix up the decades for a fresh twist on a retro look. This pair from Jimmy Choo keeps the luxury feel strong with embellished edges:

Blue and Green

Forget millennial pink, the colours of the tournament have definitely been green and blue.

King of the Clay, Rafael Nadal, has been leading the way in his rich blue ensemble, with Nick Kyrgios also getting in on the act.

In the ladies’ draw, sea green has been the colour du jour, with Kristina Mladenovic getting it just right with her matching headband and trainers.

The ball boys and girls have also been looking fab in this gorgeous shade.

Green with envy? Get in on the action with some cool frames like these from Salvatore Ferragamo. They’ll look fab with your tennis whites, or teamed with a beach dress on your hols:
