Although summer is a fabulous time of year for many, it can also be an extremely expensive time of year too. You may need to pay for a holiday or two, buy outfits and presents for weddings, buy a new summer wardrobe and perhaps pay for that festival.

Before you know it, your bank balance is at zero, and you’re left wandering how you’re going to enjoy the rest of summer.

But do not fear. We have compiled together some top tips on how you can enjoy this gorgeous season without spending a heap of money. Take a look below to find out what they are.

1. Picnic

Ah, the picnic. The summer tradition of the picnic goes back centuries, with al fresco eating being the perfect way to make the most of the gorgeous weather on a budget.

Why not grab a few friends for a fun and cheap day out, or perhaps just take your partner for a romantic meal under the stars?

You needn’t go crazy on the food front, just buy some of the basics like bread, cheese, olives, crisps and fruit.

Head to your local park for free, or perhaps venture further afield to somewhere you’ve never been before. Have a look at this article to find out some of the best picnic spots in Britain.

2. Have a Party at Home

Going out with your friends is always more expensive than having a party at home. The drinks cost more, as does the food, and that’s not to mention the entry fees for clubs.

So, why not instead throw a party at home, and in your garden if you have one?

Make an effort to dress up your place with balloons and bunting, and tell all your friends to bring around some drinks and food. Why not get some garden games like croquet, swing ball or badminton, and have competitions with your mates?

Whack on the BBQ, throw on some tunes and watch the sunset together! You never know, you may actually prefer it to going out.

3. Have a Look at Budget Fashion

You can grab some gorgeous purse-friendly pieces on the high-street nowadays.

Many of the high-street brands do fantastic designer dupes and mimic the designer catwalk, so you can get the high-end look at a low-end price.

One of the must-have pieces for summer is always a beautiful pair of sunglasses.

Why not have a look at the Savannah S8122 – Tortoise (Sunglasses)? Their gorgeous tortoiseshell frames are very much in vogue this season, and would make the perfect accompaniment to any summer look.

And even better, they are a steal at only £10. They also come in a huge range of other colours.

You don’t necessarily need to get on an airplane to have a fun time this summer. Why not head to your hometown or a nearby city/resort and really make the most of what is has to offer?

Grab your friends, take a camera and get some really fun and interesting shots and share them on social media. Visit an arcade and use the 1p machines, and buy a delicious ice cream to enjoy in the sun.

Go into all the local shops and really browse each of them – there’s nothing wrong with a bit of window shopping.
