The sun is coming out at last, the days are getting longer and holidays are looming. It’s time to put away those winter woolies and think about planning your summer wardrobe.
But there’s no need to spend huge amounts of money on endless piles of new clothes. With a bit of careful thinking you can invest in just a few versatile wardrobe staples which will see you through the warmer months.
Take a look below to find out the pieces you should be buying over the next couple of months.
1. The Summer Dress
A pretty summer dress is one of the easiest pieces to wear and style.
Simply chuck it on, team with some sandals and you’re good to go. The great thing with a dress is that you can also play it up for evening wear with a pair of heels and a clutch bag – perfect if you’re trying to keep your holiday luggage to a minimum.
This dress is very much on-trend, with its polka dot pattern and pretty ruffle detailing.
2. The Ripped Jean
Jeans are one of those items which can be worn all year-round, but ripped jeans are ideal for the warmer months.
Not only do the rips look super cool and edgy, but they will keep your legs nice and cool too. Opt for a pair with a slightly lighter wash such as these in the picture, and team with a biker jacket or loose fitting shirt.
3. The Bardot Top
Go for the vintage vibe with a bardot (or off-shoulder) top, which are all the rage this year.
They are incredibly feminine and flattering, with the style elongating and slimming the neck. Try teaming with a pair of denim shorts or three-quarter length chinos.
4. The Swimsuit
Another essential piece for those hot summer holidays, be sure to grab a stylish bikini or swimsuit (or two).
Costumes with plunging necklines are everywhere in the shops at the moment. Look for a piece with a high leg cut which will slim and lengthen your legs.
If bikinis are more your thing, then look for a piece with added embellishments such as this gorgeous jeweled red costume above.
5. The Denim Jacket
Denim jackets can be worn with pretty much anything and are the ideal option for cooler evenings or the unpredictable British weather. They come in a huge range of styles.
This cropped jacket featured above will cinch you in at the waist, and would look great teamed with high-waisted skirts or trousers.
Also keep an eye out for jackets with colorful embroidery detailing, which is right on-trend at the moment.
6. The Sunnies
Sunglasses are THE must-have item for summer. Not only do they make you look super chic and finish your summer outfit perfectly, they also protect your eyes from harmful UV rays.
If Cara Delevigne’s style is your cup of tea, then grab these Dolce & Gabbana DG2155 round sunglasses. The lens shape is super stylish this year, with the minimalist metal temples and frame bringing your summer wardrobe right up to date.
