It’s Summer, and it’s hot. That means only one thing – time to dig out the BBQ, dust it off, and invite your friends over for some culinary excellence.
You can’t go wrong with some burgers and sausages on a BBQ, but why not be more adventurous this year and look to some of the top chefs in the world for some inspiration for new recipes?
We’ve compiled together some of our favourites from Instagram – which ones are you going to whip up this summer?
Halloumi salad @jamieoliver
Have you ever tried halloumi? If you haven’t, you’re truly missing out in life.
It is a Cypriot cheese which can be fried, grilled or BBQ’ed, and has a delicious salty taste which compliments many dishes perfectly.
It is a fantastic alternative to meat for vegetarians too.
We love how Jamie Oliver has used BBQ’ed halloumi in this summery salad, with asparagus, red onion and fresh lemon dressing.
Halloumi is also a great addition to kebabs.
Stack peppers, courgettes, mushrooms and halloumi on a skewer, before putting on the BBQ. Delicious!

Roasted chili prawn skewers @bbcgoodfood
You can’t go wrong with a bit of seafood on the BBQ, and these delicious chili and lime prawn skewers will really make your BBQ something to remember.
The prawns are marinated in a smokey chili marinade for 10 minutes, before being charred on the BBQ.
Prawns don’t need much cooking – about 5 minutes each side. If you overcook, prawns will have a tendency to go tough.
These are surprisingly easy to make. Find the full recipe here.
Burgers in brioche buns @dandoherty_
Head Chef of the famous Duck and Waffle in London, Dan Doherty has some fab ideas about how to jazz up the ordinary burger.
We love this take with the use of delicious, sweet charred brioche buns, and the addition of pickled red onion and garlic mayonnaise.
Just shows you how interesting and different burgers can actually be – think outside of the box.
Rye Flatbreads & Vegetables @gkstories
The recipe for these Rye Flatbreads topped with chunky Pebre Sauce, avocado, olives and grilled zucchini is part of the vegetarian BBQ special that we developed for the Swedish organic brand Kung Markatta. It's a real flavor bomb of a recipe and it's out now. 💥🔥⚡️ Head over to @kungmarkatta1983 for a link to the recipes (in Swedish). #kungmarkatta #sponsored
David Frenkiel specializes in delicious vegetarian and vegan food, and has really come up trumps with this recipe.
David has made some rye flatbreads and topped them with avocado, olives, courgette and a Pebre (or chili) sauce.
Flatbreads are incredibly easy to make, and many recipes can be found online.
Alternate the vegetables for whatever you have in the fridge, and you could always use a ready made chili sauce.
BBQ Aubergine & Tahini @deliciousmag
This recipe from Delicious Magazine looks fantastic.
They have roasted a whole aubergine which has charred the skin and given a delicious smoky flavour.
The same could be achieved by placing a whole aubergine on the BBQ, and turning occasionally.
Serve with a tahini sauce, which is made from sesame seeds, and a lovely light fresh Greek salad with feta.
If you’re attending a BBQ, you may need to bring a pair of sunglasses with you!
They don’t just protect your eyes from the sun, but also from the smoke generated from the BBQ! We love Lily Pebbles’ summery look below.
Steal her style with the Savannah 9199. Their bold black frames and wayfarer style are so easy to wear and suit so many face shapes. The style is also very much in vogue this summer, and would be the perfect addition to any summer outfit. They are a steal too at only £20!
