Jerome Boateng made\u00a0a name for\u00a0 himself in football as a versatile defender for Bayern Munich. His\u00a0preferred position is that of a centre back known for his hard tackling and passing skills. He\u00a0worked his way up to become one of the\u00a0worlds best defenders and was one of the first black players to play for the German National Football Team.<\/p>\n

Born in\u00a0Berlin, Germany in 1988 to a Ghanaian father and a German mother. Jerome had\u00a0two siblings, fellow footballer Kevin-Prince Boateng, who is a year older, and younger sister named Avelina.<\/p>\n

He\u00a0started his footballing career at club Hertha BSC before moving on the Hamburg after one season.<\/p>\n

Since establishing himself there as one of the must have names on the first team sheet, he\u00a0helped the clubs gain\u00a0trophy successes which include the domestic treble of 2012-13.<\/p>\n

Also\u00a0winning the Champions League after bitterly losing in the final to a penalty shot in the previous year to Chelsea.<\/p>\n

He started his international career playing in the German under 21 team in 2009 before quickly being promoted to the senior team.<\/p>\n

Taking\u00a0part of the 2012 and 2016 Euro Championship and also the 2010 World\u00a0Cup; he became\u00a0a World Cup winner in Brazil with Germany in 2014.<\/p>\n

Off the pitch, Jerome\u00a0is the father of twin girls born in 2011 with long term partner Sherin.<\/p>\n

In 2016 he spoke about not wanting his wife or daughters to attend the Euro Football Championships being held in France and ultimately stopped them\u00a0from going soon after the terror attacks that took place just seven months before.<\/p>\n

Just prior to those Championships, Boateng was at the centre of controversial comments made by a member of Germany’s anti-immigration party (Afd), where he tweeted about Boateng being well liked by most but that people wouldn’t want him living next to them.<\/p>\n

The comments received widespread criticism from politicians and footballers alike eventually forcing the anti-immigration party member to backtrack on what he said on Twitter, claiming that he did not mean it they way it did, with the leader of the actual party apologizing on their behalf.<\/p>\n

Whilst off the field, Jerome Boateng can sometimes be spotted wearing black or metal framed spectacles.<\/p>\n
