Known for its warm weather, beautiful scenery and gorgeous food, the South of France is a fantastic place to visit for a weekend or longer.<\/p>\n

I visited back in September 2016, and it was still BOILING! If you can’t stand super hot weather, then do not visit in the height of summer, or you will be suffering!<\/p>\n

I flew from London Luton to Nimes, which took just over an hour and a half, but stepping off the plane I felt like I’d be transported to the other side of the world. I stayed in Uzes, which is a small and pretty town around 45 minutes from the airport.<\/p>\n

Have a look below to see some of my recommendations for the best places to visit.<\/p>\n

Uzes.<\/h1>\n

Fenestrelle Tower, Uzes<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

A pretty historic town, Uzes is about 25km from Nimes. Famous for its large square and its twice-weekly food and crafts market, it is a really interesting place to visit. Think cobbled streets, stone walls and quiet secluded gardens.<\/p>\n

There are plenty of little cafes and restaurants dotted along the streets and in the square – perfect for a glass of wine and to watch the world go by. There is also an incredible gelato shop, with some of the most amazing flavors. A must, in my opinion.<\/p>\n

Haribo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

It is also home to the Haribo factory and shop. Need I say more?<\/p>\n

Avignon.<\/h1>\n

Pope’s Palace (Palais des Papes)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Pont Saint-Benezet (Pont d’Avignon)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Avignon is a city in Provence, primarily famous for its bridge. Ever heard of the song ‘Sur le Pont d’Avignon’? Yeah.<\/p>\n

Although the bridge is beautiful and well worth a visit, don’t miss the other treasures in this city. For example, the Pope’s Palace (or Palais de Papes), is a huge 13th Century monastery, and absolutely stunning. The architecture and sheer size of it is staggering.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, why not browse the historic streets and pop into a cafe or two?<\/p>\n

La Roque-sur-Ceze & Cascades.<\/h1>\n

Cascades du Sautadet<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

This place is a bit of a secret, so shhh, don’t tell anyone. La Roque-Sur-Ceze is a beautiful little Medieval village set high upon a hill, and has been voted the most beautiful village in France.<\/p>\n

The chapel even stretches back to the 12th Century. There is a small & delicious\u00a0cafe in the village, but otherwise, not much else to do. It is very beautiful all the same, with fantastic views.<\/p>\n

The Cascades du Sautadet are pretty spectacular too. Located around a 10 minute walk away from the village, these dramatic waterfalls, rapids and whirlpools are amazing to look at, having been carving out the rocks for 1000s of years. Just be really careful and don’t fall in or go for a dip – seriously, you won’t get out again. Further downstream, you will find a beautiful still pool, perfect for a swim.<\/p>\n

Pont du Gard.<\/h1>\n

This place was awesome! The Pont du Gard is an ancient Roman aqueduct and remains in a remarkable condition. You can walk all the way across, and even go inside.<\/p>\n

A little downstream you can find a kayak hire place too, where you can go and paddle all the way under the bridge! There are also various cafes and shops at the visitor centre too.<\/p>\n

Nimes.<\/h1>\n

This is the biggest city we visited in the South of France, but still has loads of character. It was one of the biggest cities in the former Roman empire, and this is pretty evident with the huge temple and arena.<\/p>\n

The arena is actually still used for bull-fighting – not really my thing though. Interesting fact: the arena was used in the filming of the movie ‘Gladiator’.<\/p>\n

Being a city, there are so many places to visit and eat here. Fantastic shopping too, with many high-end designer shops.<\/p>\n
