4 Smart Selfie Tips for Glasses Wearers

Selfies…everyone’s taking them. Just search for #selfie on Instagram and you’ll find over 240 million photos!

For those who don’t know (which is probably not many of you) a selfie is a photo that you take of yourself using a digital camera or a camera phone. However, if you wear glasses, getting the perfect selfie can be a little harder than it should be. Certain angles can be unflattering and light reflecting off your lenses is a total nightmare.

So, what do you do when you want to show off your amazing new specs? To help you out, we’ve come up with four handy selfie tips for glasses wearers, featuring some of our fabulous SelectSpecs customers.

1. Get the Lighting Just Right

Every experienced selfie taker knows that you need good natural lighting to look your best. There’s nothing worse than dark shadows covering your face. However, bright light can often lead to glare when you wear glasses. To take an Instagram-worthy photo, you can reduce glare by changing the position of your face in relation to the light source. When posing for a pic, put your head slightly lower than the light or turn slightly away from it. Alternatively, angle your glasses down a little, so that the light can’t reflect directly onto your lenses.

2. Play Around with Angles

Getting the perfect selfie is all about the angle, and this is even more true for glasses wearers. The best angle will show off your glasses without them being the main focus of the photo or hiding any of your features.

When you’re taking a selfie, don’t just stick to one position. Play around with different angles until you find the best one. Shoot straight on, from the side, or try lying down and taking a photo from above, like @corinnewalder.

3. Embrace the Power of Make Up

Makeup is a great tool when it comes to taking photos. We’ve all heard of the no-make up selfie, but sometimes cosmetics can give you that extra confidence you need to share your latest snap. If you’re a glasses-wearing gal, your eyes can often get lost when they’re behind the lenses of your camera and your specs, but a bit of eyeliner and mascara can easily resolve this. For the best results, line your eyes across the top and bottom lashes, extending all the way out to the corner, and use a dark colour to really define them. If you wear thick frames, you can go all-out with heavy eyeliner like @lisaalicewrites to create balance.

 4. Smile!

Finally, any photo you take will look amazing if you have fun and flash a smile. Forget pouting…a beaming smile will light up your whole face and make you look super confident and happy in your specs!
