Life Hacks x Glasses

Unfortunately, every optical wearer may have been called “four eyes” at least once in their lifetime.

Non-glasses wearers just simply don’t understand the struggle. But now, glasses can be a stylish accessory to any outfit, and can really reflect the wearer’s personality. Although, wearing glasses can be a challenge on occasion, so here’s a few tips and tricks to keep your style on point.

Slippery Glasses

Many times during the day we find ourself pushing our glasses up our noses as they keep on sliding down.

It could be because of the position we are in or just because of oily skin, but the glasses just wont stay put.

A solution? Get two hair ties and wrap them around the arms of your glasses just after the bending. This trick will make sure that your glasses wont slip & slide anymore.   The hair ties will also stay hidden from anyone curious, safely behind your ears.

Scratched Lenses

If you’ve ever owned or worn a pair of glasses, you will know just how delicate the lenses are.

They can get scratched easily, and it’s so hard to get rid of those scratches. But, a solution might be hiding right in your toilet cabinet.

All you really need is some toothpaste. Yes, that’s right, toothpaste. But make sure you use a non-abrasive toothpaste, as you don’t want to throw your lenses in the bin just for a tiny scratch.

First, clean your lenses, then with a cotton ball or a wool cloth, apply a small amount of toothpaste to the scratched lens. Rub the toothpaste in with circular motions for ten seconds.

Rinse the toothpaste off with cold water and and dry the lens with a micro-fibre cloth. Your lens should be as good as new. If the scratch is still there, try and repeat the whole process a few times. Side note: this technique won’t work on lenses with an anti-scratch coating.

Clean Your Glasses

If you need your glasses 24/7, you probably already know how many countless times you need to take out your cloth and clean them throughout the day.

That is why you can never have too many cloths. Make sure they’re micro-fibre as they’re the only one to use when cleaning your glasses.

You may also have a bottle of lens cleaner in every room, and a small one in your bag, because you never know when and where you may need it. You can find SelectSpec’s set of micro-fibre clothes here, lens cleaner here and a bundle including both here as well.

Makeup

For all the glasses wearers and makeup lovers out there, yes, there are techniques to combine both.

All you have to do is customise your make up routine around your glasses. Most of the time, glasses tend to intensify the darkness of your under-eye, and a basic concealer might not be enough.

This is why you might want to use a colour corrector before applying concealer. A red tone on the under-eye can reduce the darkness significantly, and with concealer on top, you’ll notice a greater coverage.

Everybody loves a winged eyeliner, but will it be a good match to your frame? Here’s the secret: thin liner for thin frames and thick liner for thick frames. Matching your eyeliner to your glasses won’t just look better per se but it’ll also enhance your eye features!

Now you can wear your glasses and make the most of it! If you feel like upgrading your style, take a look at SelectSpecs’ collection here!
