Located in picturesque St. Ives, Porthminster Beach is a family-friendly gem of a shore.
It’s a bit more sheltered than the main beach in the town, and tends to be a little less busy too.
Just a 5-minute walk from the town centre and right next to the train station, it’s super easy to get to.
When you get tired of catching those rays, there’s plenty for you to do in St. Ives.
Take a boat tour to what the locals call ‘seal island’ and meet the wildlife, and when you’re done grab some fish and chips from one of the many local cafes and restaurants.
Just pop into The Cornish Candy Shoppe afterwards, for a fab selection of homemade fudge – great as a souvenir or if you fancy something a little sweet after dinner.

Porthgwidden

Another St. Ives wonder-beach, which is often overlooked by tourists and so great if you want to avoid the crowds, is Porthgwidden.
It’s smaller than the main beaches and has lots of shelter, and so isn’t much affected by the sea winds.
In fact it’s a bona fide sun trap.

Sennen

Sennen beach is just a stone’s throw away from Land’s End, the most westerly point in Britain.
It’s super popular with surfers as it enjoys the full force of the Atlantic.
The beach itself is called Whitesands Bay because of its dazzling sand that stretches to a neighboring beach.
The town is just a few minutes away, where there are plenty of cafés and restaurants to refuel and refresh.
There’s a stream that runs down to the sea in the middle of the beach; head over to the far side of it where there are lots of sand dunes if you’re looking for a more peaceful spot.
