Fashion Trends For AW’17

Fashion week Autumn Winter 2o17 took over the streets of New York, London, Milan and Paris, and with it came a whole new host of trends.  From political statements, innovative embellishments to a revival of the 80s, the mood of the month can pretty much be summed up as ‘anything goes.’ So, if you’re wondering what you’re going to be wearing come autumn, look no further – we’ve got the run-down of the only trends worth noting.

Power Suiting

Perhaps it’s the prominence of feminism on the political landscape that’s brought about the reoccurrence of this 80s staple, but trust us; power suits are well and truly making a comeback.

Seen at the likes of Alexander Wang, Jason Wu and Calvin Klein Collection, there’s no doubting the prominence of masculine tailoring for winter dressing.

For a modern take on the retro look, opt for styles in traditional menswear fabrics such as grey tweed and monochrome houndstooth, and remember to keep the cut slim and shoulders big – it’s all about making an impact with the androgynous look.

Super Shearling

It’s not the first time shearling coats have been a big deal on the autumn/winter catwalks and it certainly won’t be the last.

Appearing at the Gucci, Zimmerman and Coach shows, the cozy texture was the material of choice when it came to outerwear.

From oversized coats to cropped, boxy jackets, the shows provided plenty of options to choose from come October when the temperature starts to drop.

New Velvet

The premier fabric from the past two seasons showed no sign of slowing down, with a whole host of designers featuring velvet in their collections.

However, it’s not as you know it. Think printed finishes and devore textures across dresses, jackets and pant suits for an opulent take on evening wear.

From interiors-inspired gowns at Erdem to embellished options at Mary Katrantzou, innovative velvet is perhaps the most interesting trend to come out of fashion month.

Crystallized

From those Saint Laurent boots that every fashion editor has got their eye on to the head-to-toe mesh looks Alessandro Michele put on at Gucci, crystal-embellished mesh pieces in futuristic silver tones are one of the biggest trends for the season.

Both a signifier of strength as well as being party-ready, designers including Dolce & Gabbana and Versace are calling on you to add a bit of sparkle to your wardrobe – whether in the form of a slinky gown, a pair of shoes or a full-length bodysuit.

Turtleneck

Stay toasty in style with a fluffy turtleneck and sassy cat eye sunnies to match. When autumn rolls around once again, remember to wear it loud and say it proud.
