5 Tips For Flawless Summer Skin

As summer sets in, so does the need to keep your skin fresh and glowing. You may have noticed that your skin might feel dry, rough, and potentially sunburnt. Acne, pimples, and other skin dilemmas also become more frequent if you are not taking extra care, especially in hot weather.

Instead of trying to hide those red, angry spots under layers of make-up, there are an abundance of natural ways to help your skin feel refreshed and glowing.

Here are 5 super simple, yet extremely effective ways to keep your skin soft, supple and surviving in the sizzling heat of the sun.

1. Vegan Smoothies

Smoothies are so easy to make, with just 2 to 3 ingredients.

All you need is ½ a cup of soy milk, ½ a cup of non-dairy yogurt, blueberries and strawberries.

Put them all in a blender and viola: a yummy and healthy smoothie is ready. You don’t need any added sugar because fruits are naturally sweet.

It has been found through research that cow’s milk and other dairy products create hormonal imbalances and inflammation.

This can lead to blocked pores and acne. Try to substitute dairy with soy or coconut milk.

Almond milk is another tasty alternative for those who like “nutty flavours.”

Soy yogurt contains probiotics which help prevent bad bacteria that form acne, so it is a perfect way to include one or two servings of it in your diet.

What better way than to make a smoothie with dairy-free yogurt, instead of eating it in a boring, bland way.

With smoothies, you can make dozens of varieties, by using different fruits every day and thus not only enjoy various flavours but also give your body a wide range of nutrients it deserves. Smoothies are best served chilled and it also makes for a quick breakfast that keeps you feel fuller for longer.

2. Flavored Water

Water is vital for keeping skin hydrated.

We lose a lot of water due to sweating in summers. But how many of us actually drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day?

Let’s face it, most of us don’t. And the reason being that water is plain and has no flavor, so we would rather drink something fizzy or take out chilled wine from the cooler.

But alcoholic, or carbonated water, even sparkling water, is not good for your overall health as it is loaded with artificial sweeteners, sugar and calories. It makes your skin feel tired and irritated.

A healthy way to detox your skin and body is by using natural ingredients to flavour plain water. The most effective one, which helps you lose weight, makes your skin tighter and glowing is cucumber, lemon and mint water.

Try this every day and your skin will thank you! Cucumber has anti-inflammatory properties, whereas lemon and mint help with digestion and stimulate the growth of new skin cells.

You can even try ginger in water to let your body and skin benefit from a liver and kidney detox.

3. Walk At Sunrise

While longer exposure to harsh rays of afternoon sun is not good for skin, lack of sunlight is also detrimental.

Walking outside in fresh air is a great alternative to running in the gym on a treadmill.

Health authorities suggest 30 minute walks early in the morning when air pollutants are at a minimum, so we can get vitamin D from the sunlight.

Vitamin D changes to calcium in the body which releases “happiness hormones” in the body called endorphins.

Walking not only helps reduce stress levels, but normalizes blood pressure, and also prevents various types of cancer, cardiac diseases and diabetes.

Walking relaxes and rejuvenates your body to calm your mind and energize your soul.

It wakes up your brain, boosts motivation, creativity and keeps you more focused to perform your tasks better for the rest of the day. If you walk daily and inhale a good amount of oxygen first thing in the morning, it shows a direct effect on your skin.

Even if you are not a morning person, try to include at least 10 minutes of walking. Once you get used to of the routine, your body will get accustomed to early rising and you will find it easy to wake up at sunrise and prolong your walking time to 30 minutes eventually.

Go to a park nearby or if you are lucky enough to live near a beach, witness the mesmerizing scenery while you inhale deep breaths and take all the fresh air inside your lungs.
