5 Ways to Pull Off Magenta

Sometimes it’s hard to wear bright colours because there can be a fine line between “too much” and “not enough.” Magenta is a fun colour to wear this summer because it’s strong, bold and is quite easy to build into an outfit.

If ever in doubt, use magenta as an accent to a black or white outfit. In case you need a bit more inspiration, here are 5 ways to pull off magenta for different occasions:

The Crop

Topshop crop top, Dorothy Perkins maxi skirt, Tabitha Simmons platform espadrilles, Azalea simple choker, Marni bracelet, Dior nail lacquer

This look can be ideal for any day-time event. It is fun, simple and easy to swap out in case long skirts are not your thing.

The magenta crop top is balanced with the platforms and nail polish and neutralized with the black and white accessories as well as the skirt.

If you prefer pants, you can swap out the skirt for a pair of black skinny jeans and the look will work just as well!

Handbag

Chanel quilted rectangular mini handbag, Dsquared knit patterned fitted dress, Gucci leather sandals, Alexis Bittar triangle earrings, Kate Spade gold enamel bracelet

Carrying a magenta handbag is a more subtle way of rocking the colour. In this case, the Channel mini handbag matches the earrings and bracelet so that the look works all together.

Again, this look uses the black and magenta combination – its foolproof and can look really classy if balanced well.

Formalwear

Zac Posen pleated silk-faille gown, Kendra Scott harlow necklace, Ralph & Russo eden pumps, Gucci Pink Flamingo eyeshadow

Magenta can also be carried well in formal events. It is important to accessorize well and balance the colour so that the look is not too one dimensional.

In this case, the dress will get most attention, but the shoes and chunky necklace can help break up the single colour.

This look will have you looking super confident and elegant. A similar combination of colours work well with a shorter dress as well (if it is not a gown kind of occasion).

Office Attire

Balmain double-breasted wool blazer, Kamali kulture sleeveless jumpsuit, Fendi peekaboo handbag, Shoedazzle decked floral necklace, Gold leaf drop earrings, Noir ice crystal gold ring set

By now it shouldn’t be a surprise that magenta and black have been paired up again.

Of course there are other colours that magenta can be worn with (usually neutral colours such as white, cream, greys etc) but if you’re going to rock magenta to the office, black will help keep the look formal and professional.

In this case, the jacket is the focal point, with the rest of the look being quite subtle and simple (including the jewelry).

Beachwear

Boohoo plunge wrap swimsuit, Hollister braided flip flop, ROMWE spaghetti strap sundress, Chico’s neutral beach tote, Nails Inc coral nail polish

Aside from formal events, magenta is a great colour for informal times, especially the beach. The bright colour screams summer so it would be a shame not to give it the limelight as you lounge on a beach. Pair this look with these Dolce & Gabbana DG6110 sunglasses which will not only keep you protected, but will also balance out the bright colour. A grey beach dress can help tone down the magenta swimsuit (if such a situation ever arises).

Regardless of the occasion and which colour you pair magenta with, the most important thing is to feel comfortable, confident and to have a bit of fun. Most of these looks use magenta as the focal point of the outfit, but you can also wear magenta in more subtle wears. For example, restrict it to your shoes and jewellery, or just your makeup. At the end of the day, it’s about what you are comfortable in, but don’t be afraid to experiment!
