Kids & Children's Sunglasses

As parents, the health, safety and well-being of our children is essential and in the summer the sun is a danger that shouldn't be ignored. That's why we at SelectSpecs.com believe that protecting the eyes of our young ones is just as essential as protecting their skin from UV damage with sun screen.

We offer a great value collection including sunglasses from fashion labels such as Ray-Ban, Police and Bolle. All our sunglasses include UV400 protection and we highly recommend polarised lenses for the ultimate protection of your childrens eyes where possible.

When should my child start wearing sunglasses?

We would recommend children wear sunglasses from an early age to protect their sensitive eyes from the sun's strong UV rays which will help prevent problems like cataracts and macular degeneration occurring later on in life. However, trying to keep sunglasses on a baby may prove difficult and uncomfortable for them therefore they will try to pull the sunglasses off at the first opportunity! Instead, it may be preferable to try a visor or a wide brimmed hat to protect your child's eyes and face from UV damage until they are comfortable wearing sunglasses.

Choosing sunglasses for your kids

Making sure your child is wearing suitable sunglasses is extremely important as the suns harmful UV rays can cause irreversible damage to your children's eyes that may go unnoticed until adult age.
Some experts suggest that nearly half of person's lifetime exposure to UV light has happened by the age of 18, so it pays to protect from an early age.

Follow these 4 tips to help you find the right sunglasses for your kids.

1. UV Protection

Sunglasses for children should block 100% of UV radiation as well as between 75 - 90% of visible light. Any sunglasses you buy should have this information provided in the packaging.

2. Durability

You should look for a durable acetate or plastic frame that will stay in place during play. Lenses should be made of a high impact material such as polycarbonate to prevent any breakages or scratches.

3. Fit & Comfort

Childrens sunglasses should offer good eye coverage and fit comfortably. Allow your child to try on various pairs to find something that is comfortable and fits correctly.

4. Set an Example

Kids at a young age look up to their parents so set a good example! Ensure you're wearing your sunglasses every time you go outside if you want your child to do the same. Encouraging the use of a hat and sunscreen for extra protection is also advisable.
