How do I order my glasses from you?

Ordering online via our website is the simplest and fastest method, or you can contact our call centre team for assistance on +44 (0)1843 264 715 (9.00am - 17.30 GMT, Monday to Friday). If you are local to Westgate on Sea, Kent, UK, you can pop in to our optical store where our advisers will be happy to assist you. Payments are handled securely by WorldPay where we accept all major credit/debit cards, we also offer PayPal payments.

How much will my glasses cost?

The cost of your glasses will depend on the frame selected, your required vision type (ie, Single Vision or Multifocal), your prescription, your chosen lens index, and any additional sun lens option that may be required. Our glasses start from as little as £6 including lenses and coatings - available for Single Vision prescriptions with SPH +/-6.00 & CYL +/-2.00 powers. Higher prescriptions may require thinner lenses at an additional cost.

How do I know what lenses I need?

Your optician will advise you on whether you need Single Vision or Multifocal lenses during your eye test, this information should also be included on your prescription. Our sophisticated lens recommendation system will recommend the best lens index (lens thickness - the higher then index value, the thinner the lens) for you - simply add your prescription details during the prescription and lens selection process and we will advise the best lens recommendation to suit your needs.

What branded lenses do you supply?

We supply our own 'SelectSpecs' branded lenses in our prescription glasses and sunglasses, these are tailor made to your prescription.  We now also supply a range of Essilor lenses - these lens options can be selected during the order process when you reach our lens option step in our prescription system.

When buying Designer Prescription Sunglasses, will any Designer logo's remain on the lenses?

Unfortunately not, we advise that the original manufacturer lenses (with any included brand logo) will be removed from the designer frame and replaced with SelectSpecs lenses made to your prescription and tint requirements. These lenses will not contain the original designer logo.

Where are my glasses assembled?

All glasses are assembled in one of our laboratories with our main laboratory based at our head office in Westgate on Sea (Kent, UK).

Before your glasses are dispatched, they're subjected to a 14 point quality check to ensure they're completed to the best possible standard - Find out more »

All orders are dispatched from our head office in Westgate on Sea, UK.

How long will it take for me to receive my new prescription glasses?

On average, your new glasses will be completed and ready to dispatch within 7-10 working days, however, this timescale is dependent on the frame selected, your required vision type (ie, Single Vision or Multifocals), prescription and lens selection. They will be posted to you by your chosen method. For further details on our timescales and up to date shipping pricing, please see here.

Will my glasses/order fit through the letter box?

Depending on what frame is ordered, most are sent in small packages which fit through the letter box. Designers however will be too big to fit as they often include extra packaging or larger cases from the designer. If you are not available to receive the package, your postman may deliver your package to a neighbour or leave this at your local sorting office - in these cases, you will be left a attempted delivery/something for you card.

How can I find out if a specific designer frame is available?

All designer frames listed on our website are available (at time of listing), however, on some occasions the more popular frames may be temporarily unavailable. If an individual option is discontinued, we will note this accordingly on our website.

If you would like to know whether a certain frame model and option is available, please feel free to contact our customer services team.

How do I obtain my glasses prescription?

Under the UK Opticians Act of 1989, it is the obligation of any optician to provide you with a prescription. The optician will provide you with a thorough eye examination and is required by Law to provide you with a copy of your prescription for your own records. You are not under any obligation to purchase your glasses from your optician.

Do I need to send you a copy of my prescription?

No - as long as you have a current up-to-date prescription and you feel confident about entering the details into our ordering page, we don't need to see a copy, however you can attach a copy of your prescription to your order for us to check. You can also email or post this to us for verification, we would kindly ask you to note this in the additional information box when ordering.

What if my prescription is outside of your range?

Our system can accomodate those with very high prescriptions, however, If your prescription is not available to order online please contact us with the details of the frames and lenses you are interested in, we will be happy to advise on the availability of your prescription.

My prescription does not have any 'CYL' or 'AXIS' value

This is quite common. The CYL and AXIS are used to correct an astigmatism. If you do not have an astigmatism, you will not have a CYL or AXIS included in your prescription, for more info click here.

What materials do you use in manufacturing the lenses?

All our lenses are supplied by leading UK lens manufacturers, the lenses are made to the highest specification and all conform to British Standard BS2738-3 2004. All our lenses are made from CR39 and organic (plastic) materials, find out more here. If your prescription falls outside our available lens ranges, please contact us to advise us of the relevant details and we can then advise you with possible alternatives.

My prescription mentions prisms - can you supply these?

A Prism is to try and correct a lazy eye and indicates a more delicate condition, this is included with a prescription to correct some special conditions or some eye disorders (like squints) that require the focused image to move position.

If your prescription contains a prism, you can specify this when entering your prescription within our Virtual Dispenser after choosing your glasses. There is an additional charge of $21.67 for this.

What if I have entered some information incorrectly?

Please contact us informing us of the error immediately, as we process orders rapidly. As a result, we may not be able to correct an error or update a delivery address in every case.

For this reason we ask you please double check your prescription and shipping information before submitting your order.

Can you put new lenses in my existing frames?

Yes, we offer a popular and competitively priced Lens Replacement Service (also know as 'Reglaze'). Please see here for more information.

Do you supply supply Varifocal or Progressive glasses?

Yes we supply Varifocal or Progressive lenses . These lenses combine three visions all in one lens. The distance and reading portions of the lens blend together with a gradual progression from one to the other, giving a third area of the lens, intermediate vision which allows for clear vision at arms distance so providing glasses to see in the far, middle and near distance with no dividing lines or segments - just one simple lens for all uses.

Please note that while we have a very high rate of success with these lenses, we cannot guarantee success in every case.

Can I order frames without prescription lenses?

Yes, just select your desired frame, once you have selected your frame, you will need to choose "frame only" then proceed to the basket and checkout.

The price displayed on the product page is correct for both frame only and glasses with prescription lenses.

Can I use my contact lens prescription for spectacles?

No, a contact lens prescription is entirely different to your spectacle prescription, if in doubt we advise confirming this with your optician or doctor before ordering.

What if my frames need adjustment after I receive them?

All frames are thoroughly inspected, aligned and professionally verified to the prescription given prior to shipping. If you need a minor adjustment, such as tightening loose arms or adjusting nose pads, you may be able to do this yourself by following our guides here or by taking them into your local optician. Alternatively your may return them to us for correction, please contact us first so that we can advise you of the correct procedure which varies depending upon your country.

How are frames sized?

The lens size is the width across the widest part of the lens (in mm). The bridge size is the width of the nose bridge. The arm length is the length of each arm. These sizes can usually be found on your current glasses by looking on the inside of the frame (usually the arms) which is a good guide to use when selecting new spectacles. For example, 52 16 135 - 52mm will be the lens size, 16mm will be the bridge size, and 135mm will be the length of the arm. To find out more click here.

Which frames will suit me best?

The shape of your face is the most important factor when choosing frames. Please see our guide for finding which frame will suit me best.

What tints do you offer?

We can apply a dark tint to any prescription glasses, but for dark sunglasses we would always recommend trying our polarised or mirror polarised lenses which cut out up to 99% glare and are darker than our basic tints.

Alternatively, we offer photochromic lenses, which are almost as clear as standard plastic when deactivated inside (approximately 15% absorption) and dark in sunlight. It is strongly advised that photochromic glasses are not used for night driving or in any dark environment in which critical judgment is required. Photochromic lenses filter out 100% of UVA and UVB, radiation, whether activated or not.

You can select the colour of tint you require and and the depth of tint from our Virtual Dispenser, for example, grey 15% absorption is a very light tint, 25% light/medium, 50% medium, 75% medium to dark, and 85% dark sunglasses.

If you select a polarised lens, these are set at 85% absorption, and are unchangeable.

Are SelectSpecs lenses glass or plastic?

We stock plastic lenses only, as they are lighter and more durable, to find out more click here.

Do you take NHS vouchers?

Unfortunately, we do not currently accept NHS vouchers through our website at this time but we do accept Edenred Eyecare Vouchers. However, if you visit our store in Westgate on Sea, Kent, UK, we're happy to accept NHS vouchers.

Are your designer brands 100% authentic and do they come with the original manufacturer case?

Yes, we only sell 100% authentic designer brands supplied directly from the manufacturer. In many cases, the designers manufacturer will include the official case for the product, however, some designers do not supply cases. In which case we will substitute this with one of our own branded cases to ensure your new glasses are protected during delivery. Please note that some designer brands may choose to offer a microfibre bag in place of a hard/soft case with the branded cases available separately (this is usually the case for brands such as Oakley).
