In the last few years Instagram has started to grow larger and larger, with over a third of all social media users now using the photographic social media app.
With new features such as Stories and Live, which allow for less permanent social updates, people have been flocking to the app in droves, with statistics suggesting that there are over 100-million new users every 6months with figures leaping from 400-million in Dec ’14, to 600-million in Dec ’16.
A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
We have all heard this phrase and for Instagram it seems to be proving true – a picture of a puppy brings instant happiness, a picture of an outfit inspires us to shop, a sandy beach with a beautiful sunset prompts holiday bookings and a picture of avocado on toast . . . sorry – that just makes us roll our eyes.
For fashion conscious people, Instagram has become the place to check for the latest fashions and also for ideas a little more ‘outside the box’.
The beauty of an app where the user is the director, is that the photographs are not subject to the high standards of fashion magazines and advertising and so you get ‘real people’ showing us how they style themselves on a day to day basis, and that is much more inspiring than any magazine.
In recent months I have come across a number of accounts on Instagram which focus particularly on eyewear and fashion and so I thought we would have a look at some of the best.

This vintage loving lady has an Instagram account which is just dripping with stylish pieces from the 30’s to the 60’s.
A self-confessed “vintage glasses hoarder” her pictures feature many, many different styles of eyewear and her bright, colourful photographs are always on point.

Whilst Select Specs doesn’t sell vintage glasses, there are many styles on the website which emulate that vintage style and the Fendi FF 0163 glasses with their tortoiseshell horn-rimmed style are a perfect dupe for that vintage style.
Pair these glasses with a 40’s or 50’s tea dress for an on trend vintage summer look – perfect for afternoon tea and lazy days in the park.

Leeds based Lizi is a lifestyle blogger who talks about dating, food and drink and the general importance of experiencing life in the moment.
She is a happy, bubbly, glasses wearing lady who captures a mixture of real life images and whimsical inspiring shots of food, travel and fashion.
Whilst she wears lots of different glasses colours and styles, her most recent red and tortoiseshell glasses are particularly lovely and when paired with a bold lip really stand out.

The William Morris London WL3509 glasses, whilst slightly different in terms of colour, have thin and delicate frames, similar to the ones Linzi wears in her recent Instagram picture.
The tortoiseshell of these glasses would still suit a bold red or purple lip and a stylish jumpsuit.

Styled as “underwear aficionado, menswear connoisseur, LGBTQ journalist, adventure seeker,” manchic is a bright and vibrant Instagram account and one of my personal favourites for all the different styles of glasses he wears as well as his general appreciation for life and the beauty of everyday moments.
In this recent picture manchic styles some unusual, square shaped clear frames with a black and grey patterned suit and grey hat for a unique and on trend look.

There are many companies who sell and promote their glasses on Instagram, but for me I love looking at the accounts where ‘real people’ show their choice in glasses and how they style them.
