Sometimes, we have the need, the need for speed. And that couldn’t be further than the truth for Sabine Schmitz. She is one of Serengeti’s principal ambassadors – one of the leading eyewear brands when it comes to driving glasses.

This all-action German driver has recently landed a presenting gig on BBC flagship programme Top Gear. But what do we know about this brand new speed demon? Having been raised within close proximity of an official Grand Prix circuit, Schmitz has a major love of cars as well as horses.

Who is Sabine Schmitz?

Considered to be one of Germany’s finest individuals to get behind the wheel, she has been dubbed ‘Queen of the Nurburgring’. This was as a result of completing a whopping 20,000 laps around the infamous route and on top of this feat, she was the first lady to win the 24-hour Nurburgring title.

This is thanks to her motor racing skills for BMW and Porsche after driving the iconic Beemer Ring Taxi around the track. Schmitz now becomes the first female presenter to host the programme for the best part of two decades.

The 46-year old divorcee was handpicked due to her sharp wit on camera, but very little is known about this all conquering German driver. She lines up alongside former TFI legend Chris Evans, not to mention Eddie Jordan, Chris Harris and Friends Matt Le Blanc. And yes we haven’t forgotten about the Stig either!

In fact Evans has nicknamed Schmitz “the speed queen” but it is her quick skills on numerous motoring shows that sees her land the Top Gear role.

Yet driving cars is not the only string to Schmitz’s extensive bow. Her other talents include being a qualified helicopter pilot, which she achieved in 2004. In the same year, Schmitz actually competed against former presenter Jeremy Clarkson as part of a Top Gear episode.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Schmitz declared;

I grew up next to the Nurburgring, and have been racing for most of my life, so the chance to combine both driving and filming was too good an opportunity to pass up. I’ve appeared on Top Gear a few times in the past, so I know we’re going to have a lot of fun.

But ultimately, it is the reliability of her driving glasses that Schmitz depends on. From those curvy chicanes to harrowing hairpins, her environment is constantly changing.

Although she’s living in the fast lane, her affiliation with Serengeti shows no signs of slowing down just yet. These particular glasses have a number of different photochromic properties.

In essence, it offers a wealth of protection, whilst having the ability to adapt to numerous lighting conditions. These adaptable glasses help Schmitz as she heads down the straight or into a corner.

Serengeti eyewear really knows no limits and provides a collection of sleek and sophisticated glasses. Understated looks are just one aspect to Schmitz’s dedicated driving eyewear.

That’s because, Seregenti glasses come complete with the latest cutting edge technology. Not only do they have unique photochromic lenses but they have polarised lenses with complete spectral control at their disposal.

But if that is not enough to whet your appetite, there is so much more. Hold on to your driving hats as Serengeti brings you molecule expanding lenses. That’s right, you read correctly.

Their specific glasses can adapt to brighter environments from sun kissed roads to darker spots with reduced UV radiation. The darker lens can absorb a greater amount of light, which is down to the compression and separation of the molecule lens structure.

This in turn gives you greater access to the light and also helps you see in a variety of other ways. In the first instance, their specialist driving glasses helps to eradicate serious issues such as eyestrain.

By allowing you the best view possible out of these specs, Serengeti can add high definition contrast to their locker. Colour improvement is a given, whilst their special polarisation technology helps to decrease glare and block those harmful UV rays.

Schmitz is just one in a long line of well-known Serengeti fans. Did you know their glasses have the holy seal of approval? Some Serengeti fans include Pope Benedict XVI, who has been spotted wearing their Classic sunglasses range.

Meanwhile, Val Kilmer and Jack Nicholson have been known to pull on a pair of their super shades. If you want to stay cool, there’s no time like the present. Why not head over to our wonderful array of Serengeti eyewear here.
