Colin Firth is one of Britains most iconic actors. He established himself as a household name (and a heartthrob) in the 1995 BBC adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Since then he’s starred in films such as The English Patient, Bridget Jones’ Diary, Love Actually, Mamma Mia and the film which won him an Oscar, The King’s Speech. His clipped English accent is loved by all and is just one reason why for over thirty years we have loved watching him on the big screen.
Colin is also an incredibly stylish gentleman, a characteristic which is often translated into the characters he plays on screen (who can forget his elegant suits and “Oxfords not brogues” shoes in Kingsman). It comes as no surprise then that in 2007 People Magazine named him as the “sexiest man alive.” Colin is a glasses wearer and tends to stick to one type of spectacle, a chunky, square-rimmed, black style. So today I thought we would look at some of the ways he styles his glasses, and the different chunky options available.
Formal Black Tie
Colin looks effortlessly elegant in black tie formal wear and his glasses style works really well with this look. In the below image he wears a classic thick rim black glasses. It’s a bold look, but one that works really well in a formal setting and which is utterly timeless.
The Mont Blanc MB0668 glasses are a really good dupe for the ones Colin is wearing. They are a great, luxury glasses for any formal occasion but also have a touch of the vintage classic about them.
Casual White Tee
At San Diego Comic-Con, Colin showed us a more relaxed side of his personality when he paired his chunky glasses with a plain white tee and black jacket. He looked cool and confident, demonstrating that a t-shirt and jacket look can be worn at any age.
If you’re after an affordable option for this look, the Savannah 2444 – Black glasses are just £12.00 with free single vision lenses and so are an excellent affordable option for this style. They are also a plainer style of glasses and so will suit a more casual daytime look.
The Weekend Look
Even when he is out chilling at the weekend, Colin never fails to pause for a quick snap with fans, and in this picture here we see him having his photo taken with a young fan, sporting a casual black shirt and jeans.
Ray-Bans are a perfect brand to use if you want to go for the chunky glasses look like Colin, and the Ray-Ban RX4340 Wayfarer glasses are great. They have the same thick frame and square shape, and also have some slight metallic elements to the top corner like Colin’s. These glasses also have a slight vintage style to them and so they’d look great paired with a vintage outfit.
The Bond Villain
Even when sporting a questionable polo neck jumper and grey jacket, Colin still manages to look elegant. We have noticed that Colin Firth prefers to wear a monochrome wardrobe, and the style really suits him as it is timeless and classic.
Want to emulate the bond villain look? These awesome Oakley OX8107 Trim Plane glasses in black fit the bill and will look great. They have a slightly more sporty look (perfect for those bond-esque getaways) but are also plain enough to dress up in a more formal look.
