Last night, the stars were dressed to impress as they attended one off the biggest events of the year; the Met Gala. Formerly called the Costume Institute Gala, this annual event is held by The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and offers celebrities and designers the chance to get creative when it comes to their outfits.
Each year, the Met Gala has a unique theme and this year’s theme was “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.” The results were some fabulously futuristic outfits and statement looks, from shiny fabrics, sequins and metallics on Kim Kardashian and Jourdan Dunn to Beyonce’s glossy latex number and Karlie Kloss’s contemporary white gown.
There were some amazing moments on the Met Gala red carpet this year, so let’s take a look at some of the best outfits and how you can get the look with eyewear. Here are our favourite futuristic frames inspired by Met Gala fashion 2016.
Metallics were everywhere on the Met Gala red carpet, as the event celebrated the convergence of man and machine through fashion. There’s no doubting that silver was the hottest colour of the night, with stars including Jourdan Dunn, Cindy Crawford and Alessanda Ambrosio dressed head to toe in silver metallics. As you can see, their amazing metallic gowns were in fact custom made by couture brand Balmain who shared a series of photos and videos of their celebrity muses.
The metallic look is easy to translate into eyewear. Check out the Dolce & Gabbana DG2150B sunglasses which feature sleek silver shield lenses and sparkling side detail for a cool and contemporary look.
Continuing the metallic look, many of the Met Gala attendees were draped in shimmering sequins including Naomi Watts and Nicole Kidman. One of the most stand-out sequined looks of the evening was Gigi Hadid’s Tommy Hilfiger dress. Attending the event with boyfriend Zayn Malik who wore metal armour, Gigi wore a floor length sheer dress in gunmetal grey with sequin detail on the body.
For a look that’s a little more wearable than head to toe sequins, add a touch of sparkle to your eyewear collection with the Giorgio Armani AR6005BZ sunglasses. These aviator shades are finished with sequined side shields for a glamorous and futuristic feel.
In contrast to the statement sequin and metallic gowns, some celebrities interpreted the theme in a simpler way. Stars including Margot Robbie, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Karlie Kloss wore white dresses with a modern and minimal look. In fact, Karlie wore two different all-white dresses on the red carpet.
If you’re inspired by this contemporary white look, you’ll love the Miu Miu 04RS sunglasses. These avante-garde glasses feature clean white acetate frames with clear gradient lenses on the front.

One of the most talked about looks of the night was Taylor Swift’s unique outfit. Taylor hosted the evening and made sure she shone bright in her metallic Louis Vuitton number. Her dress featured a lustruous snakeskin print and cut-out detail which she paired with strappy knee-high shoes and vampy lipstick.
Get Taylor’s printed metallic look with the Gucci GG4266/S sunglasses. These futuristic frames feature a shimmering silver finish with a unique patterned design.
Clare Dane’s pretty pastel dress was one of the most talked about looks of the night. Designed by Zac Posen, her amazing pastel blue gown lit up in the dark for a futuristic fairytale look. She wasn’t the only one to embrace this softer look though; other celebrities wearing pastels included Lorde and Blake Lively.
For a contemporary take on pastel eyewear, the Mui Mui MU 54PS sunglasses are a perfect choice. They feature modern rimless aviator lenses in a soft blue colour.
Last but not least, we couldn’t ignore Kim K’s amazing look. Co-ordinating her outfit with Kanye, Kim Kardashian West was draped head to toe in the metallic look with some heavy embellishments which really made her dress sparkle. Her amazing gown featured long sleeves and a sexy thigh split in true Kim fashion.
Embellished eyewear is the perfect way to achieve this look. We love the Bvlgari BV6079B shades, a luxury pair of shield sunglasses that are finished with sparkling detail on the sides.
