Light Adaptive & Transitions

Activated by UV light, Light Adaptive Transitions and photochomic lenses (also known as 'reactolite') automatically adjust from clear to dark according to the outside lighting conditions. These lenses are suitable for both single vision and progressive prescriptions.

Add Transitions to your next pair of glasses

Simply choose a frame, enter your prescription (if required), select your lenses then add a light adaptive lens option.

Adaptive lens technology

Simply put, Transition lenses are activated on exposure to UV light transforming clear lenses to a darker lens. The lenses are fully clear in indoor environments and at night but darken to varying degrees when outdoors where UV light is present. These lenses offer full UVA and AVB protection.

While Transitions VII / Signature lenses are generally not recommended for driving, Transitions XTRActive or Drivewear are more suitable.

For every day use

Transitions VII / Signature are the most balanced adaptive lenses on the market. Designed to be completely clear in indoor environments and at night while quickly adapting and darkening in bright sunny outdoor conditions.

These lenses continuously adapt to the changing light conditions so you can be sure that your lenses will always be pefect for your surroundings.

Transitions VII are not suitable for driving.
We recommend the XTRActive or Drivewear options below for this activity.

XTRA protection

Transitions XTRActive are designed to protect your eyes from the brightest sunshine with the added benefit of providing a light tint for protection against harsh artificial indoor lighting.

While Transition VII / Signature lenses are not suitable for driving, XTRActive lenses are designed to darken while behind a windshield to protect your eyes from harsh sunlight while driving.

For driving

Drivewear lenses are temporarily unavailable.

Transitions Drivewear sun lenses combine both polarised and photochromic technology to provide you with the perfect lens for driving. The polarised filter reduces glare and reflections from the road and other reflective objects while the photochromic filter adjusts the colour and tint of the lenses to suit the driving conditions.

Drivewear lenses feature a green/yellow tint for high contrast in low light but adjust to a dark red/brown tint for maximum comfort when light is at it's most excessive.

gettext.alts.transitions_suitable_everyone

Suitable for everyone

Transitions are perfect for everyone, no matter what your age - In fact, it's never too early to start protecting your eyes against the effects of UV damage. Kid's especially are more at risk of the damaging effects of UV exposure compared to adults as a child's eye allows 6 times more UV light to penetrate than an adults.

It's difficult to ensure your child is wearing the most suitable protective eyewear at all times, situations such as playing with friends or during school breaks, indoors or outdoors. Fortunately, Transitions lenses can help by blocking 100% of UV light and protecting against harsh sun light while outdoors, yet remain perfectly clear while indoors.

Superb value photochromic lenses

We also offer a great value collection of photocromic lenses that are ideal for those on a tight budget.

These lenses are not suitable for driving.

Brown Photochromic

Typically these react to UV light in less than 1 minute, and continue to darken gradually with exposure to UV light. These will return to their natural state usually within 5-10 minutes once indoors. This reaction is known as a thermal process, where the higher the temperature, the less dark they will react. Photochromic lenses will get very dark in cold weather conditions.
